PRIVATE PILOT CERTIFICATION

Have you ever wondered if you can go to the airport and hop in a plane to fly to the coast for the weekend with your family and friends? A private pilot license is your boarding pass to any destination you choose. Chiota Aviation is proud to offer industry-leading private pilot license certifications. Let’s look at what exactly a private pilot license is and how you can get your license through Chiota Aviation.

WHAT IS A PRIVATE PILOT LICENSE?

A private pilot license is the most popular pilot certification in the United States. A PPL is very similar to a driver’s license for automobiles as anyone who has a PPL can legally fly an aircraft. Private pilots get the necessary training to operate small aircraft by themselves which includes aircraft maneuvers, navigation, emergency procedures, and cross-country flight planning. A private pilot license is the first major step for those who want to become an airline pilot. This private pilot certification also allows you the ability to fly both during the day and during the night, in optimal flight conditions.

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS OF A PRIVATE PILOT LICENSE?

In order to receive a private pilot license, you first have to meet the following requirements:

  • Be 17 years of age

  • Read, speak, write and understand the English language

  • Hold a U.S. student pilot certificate, sport pilot certificate, or recreational pilot certificate

  • Receive flight training and a logbook endorsement from an authorized instructor

  • Meet the aeronautical experience requirements for the aircraft rating sought

  • Pass a practical test for the aircraft rating sought

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO GET A PRIVATE PILOT LICENSE?

A private pilot license requires a minimum of 40 hours to complete. At Chiota Aviation, we can work with your schedule to make sure your training is as versatile as possible and you achieve your goals as quickly as possible.

Must also meet requirements under 14 CFR § 61.109

Estimated $12,000 to $15,000 over the course of 6 to 12 months

HOW LONG IS A PRIVATE PILOT LICENSE GOOD FOR?

One of the best advantages of a private pilot license is that it never expires. A private pilot license is valid for a lifetime. Every two years, all pilots will have to go through a flight review to keep their license currency. Luckily, Chiota Aviation offers flight reviews to help keep your license current.
